The Abbey Jacket

I can't even remember where I found the link for this coat but when I did, I went straight to this Etsy shop and bought the pattern. And then I promptly went to the fabric store and bought some fabric. I had some of this sweet bird fabric leftover and I knew I wanted to use it as the accent fabric. The jacket itself did not take long to come together, it was all the details. The hand sewing. Ugh. The hand sewing. I love to sew and love to knit but hand sewing???? Who likes embroidery/ hand sewing?? I sounds like a nightmare!! Regardless, after a few nights of hand sewing, I finally finished the jacket.
It looks like my girl might like the jacket as much as her mommy!

Pumpkins, Hearts and Feathers

This post boast 3 things: 1) another new dress for Sage - in hearts 2) Our trip to the pumpkin patch and 3) a feather hair clip. Let's back up a bit. I decided that I would make Sage a Halloween costume (more on that later this month) but before I started cutting the fabric for her costume I needed to make a proto-type dress and pattern to make sure it would fit right. So I dug through the stash and came up with this super cute corduroy heart print that some of you may recognize. I made a simple A-line pattern based roughly on a dress she has. The front was super simple so I added some pleated pockets. The back has a keyhole loop and button closure so it can easily fit over her head. I used bias tape for the neck line and arm loops. Easy peasy. I actually started and finished this dress after dinner last night, which surprised even myself. And what better day to wear it than on our trip to the pumpkin patch with Wyatt's school.

The Bench Re-do....again

A few years back I bought a piano bench at an Estate Sale. I brought it home, sanded and stained it, the recovered it. That little bench (as seen originally here) had been living under the table in the "Adult Room" collecting dust and not being used. Meanwhile I have been on the look out for a chair to go with the table in my bedroom that I use as my little vanity if you will. As garage sale season came to an end and I found no chair, it clicked with me one day to just use this old piano bench. And so I bought a can of gray spray paint and sprayed it down (much easier than staining!). I had the perfect piece of fabric to recover the seat in my stash. And so I present you with my new look:

The Pleated Dress

Yay! Sage got a new dress today. I spied this tutorial a while back and recently dug into my stash and got started. There was no real pattern and the neck is a bit wider that I would have liked. But the good news is that I think this will fit her as a shirt as she gets bigger. The fabric comes from one of my favorite local fabric stores, Creative Union Fabrics in Port Townsend. The bias tape was a gift from some friends who brought it back from France for me a few years ago. I thought it was a great fit with this fabric and it sure beats making my own bias tape! The back closes with four buttons - in sparkly pink.
This photo pretty much sums ups how Sage felt about my little photo shoot!

Fall Decor

I love Fall! And really I love any excuse to redecorate or change the decor in my house. But what I'm really loving right now is my new bench seat. I asked my father-in-law if he would help me build a bench seat for the big window in my dining room. I guess by help I really meant: build it for me! And that is exactly what he did. Although I totally would have helped. I really wanted the bench seat to look like it belonged there. So we used the same trim on the front of the bench and put the bead board on to tie into the doors. After almost a month of working on it, it finally found it's way home last weekend and I love it! And you know I have a sewing project or two planned for this seat, right? But right now I placed some pillows that I already had there and I'm liking it. Did I mention that the inside of this bench in lined with the most beautiful and delicious smelling cedar? Well it is!
See that sweet little pumpkin in the corner? The bottom of it is all green - I love it!
Anyone else addicted to Pinetrest? I am. It's a love hate thing. The love is that there are so many great ideas on there. The hate is that I spend way too much time on there and not nearly enough time actually doing. I did find some time one afternoon to make my version of this cute leaf banner as seen here. I had all the felt scraps on hand so I just spent some time cutting out leaf shapes and then I just sewed them all together. Really, it was super easy. Here are some close ups of my leaf banner. Happy Fall everyone!

This post is for you Molly

Thanks to a friend I was reminded that I am waaaaaaaayyyy behind on my blogging. It's something I really enjoy doing but seems to never happen. I'm not making any promises for further blog posts but instead I'm taking it one day at a time. Today I am sharing what most recently came off my knitting needles. As soon as the weather turned a little cooler (and all my favorite shows came back on TV) I picked up my knitting needles and began this Anthro-Inspired Scarflet. It came off my needles 2 nights ago and got blocked last night and is now ready to wear!
