Starburst Mirror

I've been waiting to show you all this project since August. Yes, August. I was inspired to make my own starburst mirror when I saw several in Pintrest (who knew??). And so way back in August I got the shims and started this little project. It didn't take much time at all to glue the shims down. I spent a few weeks deciding what color to paint and also to find a mirror that would look good with it. I finally found a mirror at Target and decided to go with a bright yellow paint. It was probably close to the end of September, maybe even early October when I finally got around to painting. And then I needed to enlist the help of my husband. Since I planned to hang this mirror over our bed, I knew he'd want a say in what to use to hang it up with. Because, you know, who wants a mirror to fall on their head while sleeping?? So my husband kindly helped by drilling some holes through the shims and base and threading some wire through before gluing the mirror on. But really the hold up was hanging this dang thing. Seriously, it's been laying on the floor in my bedroom for at least 3 weeks. Every now and then I'd give my hubby these sad puppy dog eyes and ask him to help me hang it. And finally, finally, it happened!! I LOVE it. I love to pop of bright color in our gray and white bedroom. What do you think??

Pumpkins, Hearts and Feathers

This post boast 3 things: 1) another new dress for Sage - in hearts 2) Our trip to the pumpkin patch and 3) a feather hair clip. Let's back up a bit. I decided that I would make Sage a Halloween costume (more on that later this month) but before I started cutting the fabric for her costume I needed to make a proto-type dress and pattern to make sure it would fit right. So I dug through the stash and came up with this super cute corduroy heart print that some of you may recognize. I made a simple A-line pattern based roughly on a dress she has. The front was super simple so I added some pleated pockets. The back has a keyhole loop and button closure so it can easily fit over her head. I used bias tape for the neck line and arm loops. Easy peasy. I actually started and finished this dress after dinner last night, which surprised even myself. And what better day to wear it than on our trip to the pumpkin patch with Wyatt's school.

Night-Light Re-do

I found this cute little lamp at one of my favorite consignment stores. The problem was that it had yellow and blue flowers on the base and a dark blue lamp shade. Not exactly going with the color scheme in Sages room. So I got out the white spray paint and sprayed the whole thing, including the frame. The base looked great but the shade, not so much. So after staring at the ugly lamp on my desk for a few weeks, a light bulb finally went off in my head! I got out my trusty glue gun and a cute scrap of fabric and Voila! Problem solved. The shade was cute and the base was a nice crisp clean white. A perfect match for Sage's room.

Sage's Garden Party

She's One! Can you believe it? I can't.

We had a birthday bash for her last weekend. I decided to have a little garden party theme. I made huge paper flowers that hung from the ceiling. We made mum cupcakes and party hats with flowers on top. The bigger kids got to plant some flower seeds in their own pots to take home. The party was super fun - Sage was a perfect angel. Oh - and she loved her cupcake (especially the marshmallows!) Here are a few pictures from our celebration:

Gifting for Girls

I'm so excited about these little gifts I've made for all of Wyatt's girlfriends. I found the perfect flower pattern and used it to make baby headbands for Sage as well as pins for adults and these adorable headbands for big girls. I'm hoping that the girls love them as much as me.

Fabric Flowers

Sage is really lacking in the hair department. I keep seeing these adorable hair clips that I've been waiting forever to buy for her but every time I seem to resist because, well, she has no hair to hold them with. And so got to thinking the other day that she needs something cute for that bald little head of hers besides the adorable hats she has. Something girly. Something that doesn't require hair to hold. A flower. A flower headband for my girl. Here are a few I came up with.

Works in Progress

Not only do we have a lot of work in progress at the new house, but I have a few projects of my own that I'm trying to complete. Like refinishing the dresser for Sage's room, and the mirror and peg rack for her room too. Oh, and the quilt. And knitting a new scarf. And a hat. And... And...And... the list seems never ending. I'm hoping to soon be posting pictures of these projects completed. But for the time being you'll have to settle for some projects in progress.

Sweater Reinvention

A while back I purchased some wool sweaters from Value Village to felt and craft with. They have been sitting in my closet for a while as I was pondering what I should use them for. Today it dawned on me to recover a pillow for my couch since the colors matched perfectly! This project was soo easy that it literally took me under 30 minutes to cut, sew and assemble. And Voila! A new cushion for the couch. I love it!

A little early Valentine

I realized the other night that now that Wyatt is in preschool I would have to do something for his classmates for Valentines Day. So upon searching the web I found this adorable and yet so simple project. We used all of Wyatt's old and broken crayons, put them in a heart shaped mold, popped it in the oven and Voila! Heart shaped crayons.

Feeling Felty

While in Eugene I picked up this nice wool sweater at Value Village with the intention of felting it. (I picked up a few others but I like them so much I can't bring myself to felt them!) And so I made my boy a pair of mittens and matching hat today. I will admit to bribing him with Christmas chocolate in exchange for posing for these pictures. Is that bad?? All week I've been tempted to go back to Value Village to scout out some more sweaters but I'm trying to downsize over here (to make room for the new babe) and so I've been good. But I tried on this hat myself and it fits and the pattern is so cute and easy that I think a trip is in order! So keep watching you might see a set for me in the near future.
