Easter and a Dress

I took full advantage of Easter this year and asked my family to indulge me in a little family photo session. We did get a few good ones that were a bit more serious than this one but for whatever reason I really like this one. It just fits, you know?

In other news, I made this dress for Sage. I gave it to her for her birthday and I also made a matching dress for her new doll. She was super excited about it (even though that is not apparent at all in these photos) because it twirls. You know, because twirl is the measure of wear-ability for dresses for any reasonable 5 year old girl!

The dress turned out good but it means a bit more than that this time. This fabric was given to me by my great-aunt straight from her stash. It's a beautiful silk print that is lightweight and was a dream to sew. This dress will be one that I'm sure I won't be able to part with long after she's out grown it!

Christmas Highlights

The real highlight of Christmas was family. Sure we all got great gifts but it was so nice to spend time with the people I love. My parents came up for 5 days and we even got a surprise visit from my brother and sister-in-law. It was great to see everyone, spend time together, share meals and enjoy each others company. We also made a trip to Seattle to visit more family. These pictures are us. It's nearly impossible to get everyone to look at the camera and smile at the same time but I guess that's how it goes. These pictures are all thanks to my Christmas gift which was a tripod and remote for my camera.

Next up: catching up on all the Christmas crafting plus the backlog of things I've made but haven't properly photographed.

Father's Day

For Father's Day we took Dennis and his Dad to the horse races at Emerald Downs. It was a special day spent making good memories. This kids and adults alike had fun watching the races and picking the winning horse for each race. Sometimes based on the look of the horse, a feeling or simply the name! My goodness - who comes up with these names? Some are quite fantastic!

There was even a little horse riding for the kids! Happy Father's Day to my wonderful husband who is loving and kind. Thank you for sharing your love and making our kids childhood magical with all that you do!

Welcome Ruby!

We got a new puppy. Her name is Ruby. She is the sweetest thing ever. See for yourself.

See. I told you.

As some of you know, we lost our family dog, Taryn, to cancer right before Christmas. It was hard and sad for everyone. Life just isn't the same without a dog when you are used to having one around. We found this little girl and the breeder agreed to hold her for us until the weekend when we could drive out to get her. So we made a trip to Eastern Washington, picked her up and headed to the ranch to visit some friends. Ruby got some serious loving from everyone and fit right in immediately. She was a great rider in the car and she is learning fast!  We are happy to welcome Ruby to our family!

If you've never seen my "ranch" posts before, know that going to the ranch is always a good time. It is basically Wyatt's dream world. He keeps asking us when we can have a farm... and since we have no intention of starting our own farm, visiting the ranch is the next best thing. Our friends raise cattle (darn I didn't get any pictures this time!), goats and sheep and also have lots of dogs, horses and an alpaca, cat and bird. Wheew. The kids had a blast riding the horses, chasing the goats, feeding the alpaca and playing with the dogs. Us adults had a great visit and enjoyed watching the kids have so much fun!

Beautiful snow covered trees.

Our friends run Promised Land Fibers where they raise their own lambs as well as spin and dye their own yarn. We have been buying lambs from them for the last two years and they are delicious!

The sheep

Remember that purple vest I knit for Sage? Well it is made from hand spun, hand dyed yarn from this alpaca.

I leave you with this beautiful picture not only of the sheep but of the peaceful landscape. What a wonderful place to spend the weekend.

New Years at Great Wolf Lodge

This year we surprised our kids with a trip to Great Wolf Lodge for New Years Eve. They were so excited when they found out a few days after Christmas. The excitement continued the whole time we were there - from the room with bunk beds they got to sleep in to the water park to the midnight balloon drop and dance party. I am grateful that we got to spend this time together as a family, having fun and enjoying each others company. And hanging out in the 85 degree water park for a couple days was not bad either!

Bunk Beds!

Ready to Party!

Happy New Year!

Wishing all of you a very happy and healthy 2014!

Holiday Happenings

Hoping that everyone enjoyed a wonderful Christmas. I know we did. We were surrounded by family, friends, good food and joy. We hosted our annual Christmas party, which is always a great time. Santa even made an appearance. Wyatt had no problems telling Santa what was on his list but Sage had to ponder for a bit...

Christmas Eve and Christmas was spent with my parents, brothers and sister-in-law. It was great to be all together. As always it is so fun to see the delight on the kids faces as they open their presents.

Merry Christmas from Our Family to Yours!

Thanksgiving Thoughts

I know Thanksgiving is over and most people have moved on to Christmas but I wanted to take a moment to share my Thanksgiving thoughts. First, our family went down to my parents and were joined by my brothers and sister-in-law and also my aunt, uncle, cousins and spouses from California. It was so lovely for all of us to be together. We don't usually get to see our extended family on holidays and it was a treat!

The Family

Second, I wanted to share what I'm Thankful for this year. While I'm always thankful for my family, this year I am especially thankful for the example that they have set in marriage. I am glad that I have had such great role models to look up to - my parents, aunts and uncles. Marriage isn't always easy, but it's worth it to try hard to make it work and that is what I've seen and that is what I strive for.

The weekend was awesome - lots of family time, lots of fun, lots of good food.
