I finally decided to dive in head first and make something bigger than a hat or a scarf or some mitts. I can't fully commit to making a sweater, so I made a vest. A Sage size vest because I can't commit to anything that takes more than one skein of yarn. This called for one skein and it used almost the whole thing. In fact,as I got closer to the end I was starting to get really nervous that I would run out - then what??? But not to worry, it worked. And it turned out so cute!!! I'm very pleased with myself. I got this yummy Spud & Chloe yarn back in the fall while visiting this adorable yarn shop in Portland.
I loved the Quick Change Trousers so much, I decided to make another pair for Sage. They are just so cute, and they fit perfectly over the big butt cloth diapers! I guess you can call these valentine pants for my girl!
That's right. 3 Dollars. Cute and Thrifty! The pattern is the Jumper Dress from Amy Butler's Little Stitches for Little Ones book. And the fabric (did I mention it was a mere $3 a yard???) is from my new favorite fabric store, Creative Union Fabrics in Port Townsend. The owner is wonderful and so is her fabric selection and prices! Anywhoo - on to the dress. It was fairly simple to make, although if I make it again I will definitely modify the pattern a bit. I love how spring-y this dress is. See for yourself:
Remember that stack of fabric that I posted a picture of a few weeks ago? Well I've been working away with it. When I saw the print with the big grey dots, I knew that they would add the perfect punch to our bedroom. I decided to make them into new pillow shams for our bed and I love, love, love how they turned out. The strips on dots on the back were a happy accident from my lack of planning!
In addition to the new pillow shams, I whipped up some quick table covers for the side tables. The grey and yellow fits perfectly with the colors scheme in our bedroom. I love to add fabric where ever I can and so that's what I was going for with these. The new pillow shams and table covers really make me happy and make the room feel like it's finally coming together. I also hemmed the curtain, moved the pile of hardibacker (that has been on the floor in our room since we moved in) and did some rearranging of chairs to make the room feel more complete and closer to what I want it. I still have a few projects planned for this room, which I'll be sure to share. What you aren't seeing in these pictures is that currently our double bathroom vanity is in our bedroom. I'm trying desperately to be patient while we wait for our tile guy... more on that later.
Long before Sage was even a twinkle in my eye, my mom had given me a hand embroidered panel of the alphabet in pink. My grandmother embroidered it and gave it to my mom for me when I was a girl. My mom never did anything with it and passed it on to me several years ago. I found it in my fabric stash recently and decided that I had to do something with it. So I backed it with some iron on interfacing to give it a little body and I "framed" it in with fabric. I finished it by threading a ribbon through a dowel to hang it. The colors fit perfectly with the scheme of Sage's room and it looks perfect in there.
We have this problem around here. I can't seem to keep track of bills and receipts. They are always being put in different locations, then found a little late or not entered into the checkbook, etc, etc. Please tell me I'm not the only one with this problem?
Anywho - I figured a little organization was in order, as well as a resolution from me to be more diligent in this department (it's just that it's so not fun and I'd rather be sewing or something.) So I made this little mail organizer that hangs right next to my desk and we've decided that all important mail and receipts will be deposited into the little pockets for me to look at everyday. This little thing has just a tiny bit of sewing - the seam on the front to be exact. Otherwise I used my trusty hot glue gun.
(Yes I know I spelled receipts wrong, it's been fixed!)
