We brought home 4 baby chicks this week! The kids are loving them and so am I. Since it was Spring Break this week, we took a trip out to a local chicken farm. The owner was very informative on all the different breeds that she had and it was fun for the kids. I was forbidden from bringing home any more that 4 (this year) and so it was a tough decision. I went with 2 Welsummers, 1 Barred Rock and 1 Black Star. The Welsummers lay dark brown eggs and I can't wait to see them. I'm just hoping that I don't have any roosters... we'll see.

Funky Chickens
I know most of you aren't as obsessed with chickens as I, but I just can't help myself. Today to my delight I found that both of my production reds had started laying and had been sitting on a half a dozen eggs (which they wouldn't let me see yesterday since they were sitting on them). And so I'm sharing a picture of the beautiful brown eggs that I got this morning.

Chicks & Bloomers
I got up early this morning and had the chance and energy to do some early morning sewing. Another project from Heather Ross' Weekend Sewing: baby bloomers. I think these turned out so cute. Now I just need a willing little girl to try them on for me.
The rest of my day turned out to be a success too. I've been feeling foggy headed now for what seems like forever but woke up this morning feeling a little more energized and so went out to run some errands. I was totally out of chicken food so had to make a trip to the feed store. This was dangerous. They had chicks. Lots and lots of chicks. For Sale. Yup - I couldn't resist and came home with four more. They are sooo cute! I'm hoping hubby isn't too upset with my "surprise." I got 2 production reds and 2 frizzle bantams. But in my defense and reasoning - I think once these start laying I will start selling eggs. So if anyone out there is interested, let me know!
