Off the needles

I'm trying to complete all the knitting projects I have going on right now before starting a new one. It's easy to loose interest in a project half way through and move on to something else, right? So instead I'm vowing to finish those projects. These fingerless mitts were easy. The sweater, not so much... but that's another post.
I've made these before using the Maine Morning Mitts pattern. They are easy to knit and fun to wear. The yarn I used was the leftover Malabrigo from my honey cowl.

The Honey Cowl + New Hair

This Honey Cowl just came off my needles and I didn't wait to wear it. It's so lovely and soft! The yarn is Madelinetosh Rios from my local yarn shop that just closed. Boo. The pattern is the honey cowl - it's free - start making one today, you won't regret it. My husband happily obliged and took some photos of me wearing it today while we played in the Olympics.

Oh - and about the hair. It's a new color for me and I'm loving it! I've always wanted to put some red in my hair and I've always been too scared - until now.

We have a tradition of cutting down our Christmas tree the weekend after Thanksgiving in the Olympics every year. Since we will be visiting my parents for Thanksgiving this year and I work every weekend up until Christmas we decided to get it today. I'm so happy we did. It was a gorgeous day in the mountains. We had blue skies with just a dusting of snow on the ground (Wyatt was a bit disappointed that there wasn't more snow). The kids had a great time and so did the adults!

The Milo Vest - Revisited

So way back in April of last year, I finished this Milo vest for Sage. It was really big even though I made it in a 3T. Plus she HATED it. She wouldn't even try it on. So I stuck it in her closet and forgot about it. Enter Fall 2013. I found that cute purple vest hanging in her closet and hoped that enough time had passed that a) it fit and b) she forgot that she disliked it. When I mentioned trying it on she was excited and even laid it out to wear the next day (that is a key part of getting dressed in our house!). It's still a little bit big, but I'm loving it.

So the next day she put it on and wore it ALL DAY. That makes this mama's heart happy because that was no easy knit - my first cables and first attempt and something more than a scarf or mitts. I love vests for Sage since it's so hard to convince her to wear a coat or sweatshirt and keep it on!

Last night this beauty came off my needles.

the Milo vest

The yarn is hand-spun and dyed by a friend from her alpaca. The pattern is called Milo, found on Ravelry. Generally I like quick and easy projects since I'm pretty much an instant gratification type of person. But I've been trying to challenge myself more and more with each new project. This was my first attempt at cables. I'm not sure why I waited quite so long because truthfully, they were not as hard as I had made them out to be in my head.

While we are looking at this pretty purple vest for my sweet Sage, I'm reminded of another recent project of sorts. I love kids in white but really it's so silly. Every single white shirt that Sage has is stained. Chocolate milk, tomato sauce... So I decided to dye all those stained white shirts. I picked up a cheap box of purple RIT dye, tossed all those stained shirts in the wash, turned my machine on and hoped all would turn out well. I''m super pleased with the results. Sage now has a handful of shirts that can be worn again!

Mini-mochi Scarf

This little scarf just came off my needles last night. I love that it's not too long and I love, love the bright yellow color! Perfect to brighten up a winter day and light enough to wear in the spring. Oh - and - how do you like my new glasses? I am loving them! We are getting ready for a big snow storm here so I'm all stocked up on sewing and knitting projects. I'm hoping to hunker down and get lots done including a birthday present for a special little girl, a new dress for Sage, a knitting bag for me and some prairie boots on the needles! Come on SNOW!!!

The Plain Vest

I finally decided to dive in head first and make something bigger than a hat or a scarf or some mitts. I can't fully commit to making a sweater, so I made a vest. A Sage size vest because I can't commit to anything that takes more than one skein of yarn. This called for one skein and it used almost the whole thing. In fact,as I got closer to the end I was starting to get really nervous that I would run out - then what??? But not to worry, it worked. And it turned out so cute!!! I'm very pleased with myself. I got this yummy Spud & Chloe yarn back in the fall while visiting this adorable yarn shop in Portland.

Brainmonster

Somehow after all has been unpacked in our new house I still can't seem to find any of the hats that I knit for Wyatt. Where on earth did they go??? Regardless, I decided it was time, past time even, for mama to knit him a new hat. And then I stumbled on this pattern from Ravelry and knew immediatly that this was the hat I had to knit for my boy. The best part about this new hat is how much he likes it. Every time he puts it on he Rarrrrs at me like a little monster!

Harper's Hood

No joke, this hat pattern is called Harper's Hood, available free on Ravelry. I couldn't not make it. I made a trip down to Portland a while back and got to visit this adorable yarn store. I found some super yummy yarn, perfect for this hat. It was a bit tricky for a semi-novice knitter like myself. But I got some help and winged the rest and it turned out perfect. Ok, perfect enough for me and my girl.

Works in Progress

Not only do we have a lot of work in progress at the new house, but I have a few projects of my own that I'm trying to complete. Like refinishing the dresser for Sage's room, and the mirror and peg rack for her room too. Oh, and the quilt. And knitting a new scarf. And a hat. And... And...And... the list seems never ending. I'm hoping to soon be posting pictures of these projects completed. But for the time being you'll have to settle for some projects in progress.

Matching Pair

I finally finished the other legwarmer for Sage. Geez, it took me long enough! It was quite difficult to get a picture of her legs being still. She is very active these days.

Tiny toes and a little knitting

So although I did finish this project 4 weeks after having a baby, I only had about half an inch left to go and to be fair it's really only half finished since I need to make another one. But I couldn't resist posting a picture of Miss Sage and her delicious little toes!

Hat in Motion

I finished another hat for my sweet little boy. And yes, I will admit to a little chocolate bribery in order to get these great photos. But he kept it on the whole time we were outside and even admitted to liking it. So mama is feeling pretty good about the new hat. Here's a few pictures of the boy in motion with his new hat.

Baby Pants - Take 2

For the second pair of knit baby pants I decided to try a different pattern. I used the Wooly Wonders Wonderpants pattern and I really liked the way they turned out. At first the pattern seems really overwhelming and complicated but a quick visit to my favorite yarn shop fixed all of that. The cool thing about these pants is that I learned a new technique. It's called the magic loop method and you knit both legs at the same time. I will definitely be making these pants again, perhaps in a bigger size. Here they are:

2 Hats for Baby

As promised, I finished some knitting projects for the new baby. As baby isn't here yet, Bear graciously sat for a photo shoot. Here are the 2 new hats for baby. The white one is the Gnomey Hat and looks as if it will fit immediately. The orange one is the Gooseberry Hat from Ravelry and should be perfect for the fall. Hope I didn't keep you wondering for too long. One of the knitting projects I was working on for our sweet new baby was a pair of pants. I just completed them and although not perfect, I think they turned out OK. So here they are:

New and Upcoming Knitting

I decided to start the New Year with some new knits. I finished a pair of the Maine Morning Mitts for myself, in black, of course because it's my favorite color to wear. I also decided it was high time that this new baby of ours have something mama-made, ready and waiting for his/her arrival. The only problem (not really) was that I couldn't decide on just one new project to start, so I started two. I've got lots of other projects waiting in the wings but I figured I'd finish these two first. Any ideas what they might be??
